file5441277786833SPRINGFIELD, IL – Sen. Hutchinson (D – Chicago Heights) released the statement below in response to President Obama’s proposed four-year, $302 billion highway bill:

“Highway development and maintenance is undeniably central to our American way of life. Here in Illinois, the passage of President Obama’s proposed highway bill would provide crucial funding for projects such as, the Illiana Expressway, the construction of which will provide construction jobs for thousands and improved transportation of goods and services in South Suburban Illinois and across the Midwest.

“Perhaps, even more importantly, these funds would be supported in part by a corporate tax overhaul, tax code reform being a cause that I continue to fight for here in Illinois. Closing tax loopholes and making the tax system fairer for all while developing our state’s infrastructure and adding essential jobs for Illinois families, is a worthy cause that I can give my full support to.”

Today, President Obama will propose the bill that will build highways, bridges, railways and transit programs, as well as protect 700,000 jobs.
