huchinson123114SPRINGFIELD – Taxpayers will be able to keep a closer eye on how mass transit agencies spend their dollars under a newly signed state law sponsored by Senator Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields).

The law requires the RTA, CTA, Metra and Pace to broadcast their meetings online in real time and archive the broadcasts on the agency websites.

“These agencies spend millions of our tax dollars and are responsible for moving millions of people around Chicago and the suburbs. The more we can do to open up their meetings and the decision-making process, the better,” said Hutchinson.

The legislation behind the new law, HB3672, was sponsored by Hutchinson and State Rep. Al Riley (D-Hazel Crest). It was signed by the governor on Tuesday.

The new law goes into effect on June 1, 2015.
