Hutchinson hosts Budget Town Halls in Chicago Heights, Kankakee

With legislators in Springfield beginning to craft a budget for next year, State Senator Toi Hutchinson (D – Chicago Heights) held two Budget Town Hall meetings in Chicago Heights and Kankakee.

“This year is unlike any other year since I have been in Springfield,” Hutchinson said. “We are facing a budget crisis of enormous proportions, which is going to require shared sacrifice from us all. I held these events to start a conversation with residents of the 40th District about the seriousness of our fiscal situation and what we can do to ensure these problems are not solved on the backs of people least able to afford it.”

Hutchinson was joined at the town halls by Ralph Martire with the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, a bipartisan, nonprofit research and advocacy think tank. Martire gave attendees a presentation on Illinois’ fiscal situation, the structural deficit and an explanation of Illinois’ unfair tax system.
